Debra Bokur, Healing Lifestyles & Spas, learns to cut cattle on her horse Cheech
Cowgirl Bootcamp - Fall edition was a huge success! Mother Nature was extremely kind and spoiled us with sunshine and temperatures in the high 20’s. Right from arrival, the ladies were in for a treat. With a crew of fun and adventurous women from England, the US, Central Canada, and right here in BC, the competition was high and the excitement was unmistakable. After three activity-packed days and a realization that this is THE PLACE to bring the kids, the ladies scheduled their family vacations at Elkin Creek next summer. Hey, that is the best testimonial there is!
As for Elkin Creek’s very first Couple’s Bootcamp (that took place the following weekend), the team was eager to see how it would unfold. On the itinerary, I had planned a romantic picnic lunch with an incredible view from the top of Cardiff Bluff (a beautiful natural basalt rock formation), and a five hour round trip on horseback from the ranch. Also on the agenda was a foodie’s dream, a gourmet five-course dinner put on by Ranch Chef, Greg Bubar, including braised lamb canapés and filet mignon. Apart from the cattle work and roping relays, I had to incorporate some additional challenging and amusing entertainment… this is where ‘How well do you know your mate?’ came in. Based on The Newlywed Game, I came up with eight rounds of questions that would test the couple’s knowledge about each other. The guys were sweating bullets, thinking they were barely going to make it out alive, while the women awaited their answers skeptically. While the gang was busy gettin’ roostered (western for having a few…), we began grilling, and oh what a time we had! A close match made way for a continuous exchange of laughter, high fives, and sporadic uproars. That’s something I’ll keep on the roster for next year…care to give it a go?

Couples Bootcamp partners, Mike and Joan, team up to round up the cattle in a timed relay
A special Thank You to Debra Bokur, Healing Lifestlyes & Spas; Erin McLaughlin, Canadian Gardening; and Elizabeth Haggardy, AOL Canada, for joining us for our Fall edition of Cowgirl Bootcamp and with a successful event year behind us, I bid farewell to our bootcamp shindigs… until next year
